Avoid Holiday Weight Gain
By Cathryn Majorossy
So the holidays are here. What's it going to be this year? 5
pounds 10 pounds? "No way" you tell yourself, not this year. Gaining weight over
the holiday season is NOT inevitable. Take small steps starting TODAY to help
prevent that holiday weight gain.
There's no reason to deny yourself that piece of pecan pie or
homemade biscuit this season or the fresh chocolates and champagne to ring in
the new year--go ahead indulge. BUT... plan ahead and be smart about it. The key
to maintaining your weight or even losing a couple of pounds during this hectic
season is to moderate your food and continue to exercise in the days leading up
to and following the big holidays. Be realistic and set aside the 3 or 4
holidays as free days where you can eat anything you want. Write them down, mark
your calendar, chisel them in stone.
Be strict with yourself and your program the other 30+ days this
holiday season. Keep up or begin a balanced exercise program, balance your
protein, carb and fat intake, watch portion sizes, and pass on those extra
holiday goodies that are lying around on your non-special days. On your "free"
days, of course, you’re free to eat all the goodies you want. That’s the deal
you make with yourself. This way you have the best of both worlds. You can enjoy
your holiday meals guilt free and still look great in your new outfit.
